On the javits center s rooftop 17 stories above the hustle and bustle of midtown manhattan lies a green space about the size of five football fields. The largest at ford motor company s river rouge plant which reached the milestone of its tenth anniversary in 2013 is also a xeroflor installation. This design is inspired by multi use rather than just another event center building.

Construction is underway on the javits center s unprecedented expansion which will add 1 2 million square feet of event related space to this iconic venue. The javits center is now offering green roof tours to customers interested in taking advantage of experiencing the exciting new ecosystem on manhattan s west side. From april to october the javits center offers free tours of its 6 75 acre green roof one of the largest of its kind in the united states. The javits center farm will have the city s only rooftop orchard with apples pears peaches and maybe cherries some grown in a 3 200 square foot greenhouse.

On the roof garden there is walkable skylights that provide natural lighting to the interior of the event center. The planting provided in the garden gives a screening for anyone that wants to sit and hangout on the lawn space of the garden. There will also be vegetables cucumbers tomatoes peppers herbs carrots arugula and mesclun greens.
