The house was built by the tew family in 1885 but served as a residence for only ten years. The townhouse has four full floors plus an additional partial basement and contains slightly over 4 000 square feet of living space. The three story second empire style building features a distinguished mansard roof with patterned and polychromed slate decorative eave brackets and an imposing mansard roofed front porch with ornamental iron cresting. It is a brick structure with a slate mansard roof featuring the original wrought iron roof decoration.
