If you are planning to fix or remodel your roof don t forget that before you even start your project safety comes first and you d better install those roof jacks.
Jacking up a flat roof.

First perform step 2 except keep the string under your beam and off to the side a bit to make room for some framing.
Once you have established how much the roof sag needs to be jacked up lay a 2x4 plate across the ceiling joists and nail directly under the ridge of the roof.
This time i was jacking the porch roof up so i could install my final and last portion of half round gutter.
Drive the remaining carriage bolts into the two by six rafter and tighten them all up.
Then lower the jack down a little at a time so that the metal can take the weight of the roof.
Many of them include caulk for sealing cracks as well as patches for treating larger areas of damage on the roof membrane.
These are steel anchors that fasten to your roof and hold planks of wood for you to walk on.
Remove the jack quickly and set the iron onto the entire beam.
So i found myself having to jack up one corner of our front side porch roof.
This is the 3 rd time we ve jacked up a portion of this house.
Now add collar ties from one side of the rafter to the other.
Place the jack back underneath the beam but this time under the iron piece.
You will need to get up into your attic and examine the roof carefully in order to discover the underlying cause.
Getting a kit means you don t have to hunt down the individual components you need for a repair.
In most cases a sagging roof is caused either by a broken rafter or roof decking but in some more severe instances a damaged or sinking foundation can be the underlying cause of the problem.
