First perform step 2 except keep the string under your beam and off to the side a bit to make room for some framing. This is the 3 rd time we ve jacked up a portion of this house. Jacking up a porch roof at a sidewall. I assume the steel you put in is the length of the house.

Then lower the jack down a little at a time so that the metal can take the weight of the roof. Drive the remaining carriage bolts into the two by six rafter and tighten them all up.

Seems to me the dormer rafters should have gone to the rige instead of having that small amount of roof coming down to that beam. Best approach to jack up a sagging ridge i have pushed a few ridges back up by jamming 2x6s under the ridge at 4 to 6 foot centers.
